Venango County Miscellaneous
This is a picture of Aaron Raymond Russell, taken in his later
years. And a copy of the first page of his journal on
his trip down the Saskatchewan River. He was employed by Capt. Middleton
to transport troops and equipment down the South Branch of the river to
recover, if possible, prisoners taken by Chief Poundmaker and his band.
They were successful.

Ol' Man PLUNKETT &Martha GREGG GIBSON
I have an interesting story told to me by my Great Uncle, Richard GIBBY
GIBSON recently. He is 91 and often tells stories that were told to him by his
father, John GIBSON.
My Great Great Grandmother, Martha GREGG GIBSON died on October 03, 1885,
in Rouseville on Gibson Farm in Venango Co. When she died the coroner came
to the house. He could not tell if she was a man or a woman (in her photo, I
can say, that she was not very attractive)!
Ol' Man PLUNKETT was at the GIBSON house when the coroner came. The
coroner asked him, "Is this an old man or an old woman?" Ol' Man PLUNKETT
replied, "Neither, she's an Old LADY!"
Since that time the family has always referred to woman as ladies!
PAM
P.S. It would be interesting if anyone is researching the PLUNKETT name (I
am not sure of the spelling)
