February 17, 1938 * Miss Betty HARTMAN, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth HARTMAN of the Exchange Hotel, weds Harry Dean HAYLETT, son of Clarence and Gertrude BLAIR HAYLETT. The ceremony was held at the Lutheran parsonage, Meadville. Following the ceremony the party returned to the Exchange Hotel, where a reception and wedding dinner was served. Miss Betty MILLHIZER, of Oil City, and William W. WILT, Jr. of Franklin were the attendants. The couple will leave on a motor trip to Key West and Miami, Fla. After May 1 they will reside in their own home, 1541 Elk Street. Those who have entertained the bride are: Miss Vivian COWAN, Miss Wilhelmina MELVIN, Miss Marion HOFFMAN, Miss Jean ANDREWS, Mr. and Mrs. Harold GAISER and Miss Peggy PHILIP.
November 23, 1938 * The regular meeting of the Laura Myrtle Baker Fort No. 26, Daughters of '98, was held on Tuesday evening at the Armory, with Captain Marian L. FERRINGER in charge of the business session. A large donation of staple good was received and will be given to the Memorial Home at Brookville for Thanksgiving. Following the business session delicious refreshments were served by the committee, Miss Thelma GRAHAM and Miss Margaret BACON. * The members of the Happy Helpers Class of the First Evangelical Church, taught by Mrs. W. G. WRIGHT, was entertained on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Frank CULP, 240 Meadville Pike. There were 20 members and guests present. The affair was in the nature of a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. CULP, a recent bride, who formerly was Miss Irene SMITH. She received many lovely gifts. *Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. MILLER, Miller Park, were hosts to the members of the Voyager Class of the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. MILLER is teacher, and their husbands at a delightful party on Tuesday evening at their home. There were 30 present. Following a short business session a clever game was played, "Broadcasting, True or False," which was much enjoyed. * Mrs. Meade ROBINSON was hostess to members of her Sunday School Class Saturday evening, 211 Pacific Street, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Robert BAKER, a recent bride and groom. The evening was spent socially and prizes in games were awarded to Misses Jean BROWN and Helen SHAFFER, Harold HIGHFIELD and Charles RICHEY. *The Brotherhood Class of the Evangelical Church had their regular meeting Monday evening in the parish house with a chicken dinner preceding the business session. Rev. B.E. COLEMAN, pastor of the church, gave a brief talk, The present teacher, Ira HOGUE, and former teachers, Ray PAINTER and Ed KRIMMEL, gave talks. *Mrs. L.V. MAWHINNEY, of Polk, entertained the members of the Idle-Awhile club at her home on Tuesday evening. The evening was spent socially and delicious refreshments were served. * The monthly meeting of the Ladies' Bible Class of the Polk Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. Clyde SCOTT, of Polk with Mrs. Fred INGRAHAM as assisting hostesses. *E. E. HUGHES of West Orange, N.J., is the guest of his sister, Mrs. Harry LAMBERTON, for a few days. * Mr. and Mrs. Harry HAYLETT left this afternoon for New York City to be guests for a week of Charles LAMBERTON. *Mr. and Mrs. S.A. HEATH left Tuesday to spend the holiday week-end with their son, Andrew, in Philadelphia. *Mr. and Mrs. Claude HYATT and son, Gene, left today for Philadelphia to spend Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn W. MYERS. *Mr. and Mrs. Clarence GATES are spending Thanksgiving in Grove City with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford EVANS. *J. Thornley SEABROOK, Jr. and Charles BROWN, Jr., students at Bucknell University, are spending their Thanksgiving vacation here. *Miss Margaret MORGAN, student at Grove City College, arrived home today to spend Thanksgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James G. MORGAN. *Miss Irene C. PETRINI, a student at Spencerian Business College in Cleveland, is spending the Thanksgiving holiday with her mother, Mrs. Rose PETRINI. *Mrs. J. D. McCALMONT and grandson, Charles MILLER, went to New York today, where they will be guests over Thanksgiving of the former's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John BREW. *Rev. and Mrs. B. E. COLEMAN and son, Boyd, Jr., will spend Thanksgiving in Johnstown with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. COLEMAN and Mrs. Levi SAYLOR. *Mr. and Mrs. S. R. SHOUEY, Park Hotel, have been called to Canton, Ohio, on account of the critical illness of the latter's sister, Mrs. Clarence MILLER, a former Franklin resident. *Grant BOLMER, Jr., a student at Wake Forest College, Wake Forest, N.C., is spending his Thanksgiving vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant BOLMER. He has as his guest a school friend, Francis BAKER. *Wayne W. BLEAKLEY, Jr., arrived home from New York Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne W. BLEAKLEY. Harriett BLEAKLEY, student at Bradford Junior College, Bradford, Mass., will arrive Thanksgiving morning. *J. B. WILLIAMS, of this city, and daughter, Mrs. William C. HOWE, of Greenville, have gone to Wake Forest, North Carolina, to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with the former's son, Jack, a student at Wake Forest College. On Saturday they will attend the Duke-Pitt game at Durham, N.C. *W. E. MATTERN, Jr. a student at Washington Jefferson College; Dean HOUGHTON, a student at Kiski, Saltsburg, son of L.T. HOUGHTON; James PANCRATZ, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. PANCRATZ, who attends Thiel College, Greenville; Miss Marjorie SHEASLEY, Miss Betty Lou TRASCHEL, Rolf ARENTZEN and Wayne SIMPSON, students at Allegheny College, Meadville; Miss Jane MUSSER and Jack NEELY, students at the University of Pittsburgh, and Carl ALSBERG, a student at Wooster College, Wooster, Ohio, are home to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with their respective parents.
