    - The venerable Ellis Hughes died at the residence of his son, John T. Hughes, in McPherson, Kansas, on Aug. 10^th , aged 79 years and six month [sic]. His remains were interred at Salina, Kansas, where his son, S.P. Hughes, resides. He was a brother of James Hughes, Esq., of this city. About a year ago, Mr. Hughes paid a visit to relatives and friends in this city and county, and enjoyed a cordial revival of old acquaintanceships. In a notice of him, this week’s Citizen-Press says: He was of the old settlers in Venango county, where he was born, and was well known to the old residents of the eastern part of the county, as a man of sterling integrity of character and a devoted Christian. Twenty years ago he went to Kansas and has resided there. He was married in 1830 to Amelia Davis, of Rockland, and leaves nine children; seven daughters and two sons, viz: S.P. Hughes, Salina, Kansas; J.F. Hughes, McPherson, Kansas; Mrs. Underwood, Washington Territory; Mrs. Stevens, Colorado; Mrs. Farris and Mrs. Anderson, Ellsworth, W.T., and Mrs. John Huston, of this city.
