Mrs. Fred A. Slaughenhaup - A beautiful service in memory of Mrs. Bertha Jones Slaughenhaup, widow of Fred Slaughenhaup, was held Tuesday afternoon in the Boyd N. Park Funeral Home. The services were attended by members of the family and intimate friends, but many others, who had known and loved Mrs. Slaughenhaup through her life, visited the Home previous to the funeral. Rev. B. E. Coleman officiated. he delivered a short message of condolence to the family and read the hymns, "Face to Face" and "Saved by Grace." Rev. E. L. Nicely, district superintendent of the Evangelical Church, of Johnstown, offered the closing prayer. Rev. Alice K. Beals read two poems, "Do Not Be Disconsolate" and "Life is But a Weaving," and also prayed. Rev. Beals presided at the committal service and the other ministers offered prayer. Interment was in the Franklin Cemetery with the following pall-bearers: Willis Whipple, Dale Fleming, Walter Allen, Judson Byrer, Thomas Beaulac and Charles B. Brelling. During the many years she lived in Rocky Grove, Mrs. Slaughenhaup was a member of the Grace Evangelical Church and active in its various organizations, as well as teaching a Sunday school class. After her removal, first to the Mt. Carmel district, and later to Eleventh Street, Franklin, she became affiliated with the First Baptist Church.

Spencer, Mrs Ruth Smith - The Derrick 6 Mar 1956 Former Local Resident dies in Cleveland Mrs Ruth Smith Spencer, former Oil City resident, died in St Luke's Hospital, Cleveland, at noon yesterday. She was the wife of Robert C Spencer and had lived in Cleveland. Mrs Spencer was active in civic affairs in Cleveland. During WW II she took an active part in war bond drives. She also founded the American Women Volunteer Service. She was born in Oil City, a daughter of the Late William H. and Maude Lewis Smith. She attended Oil City schools and later graduated from the National Park seminary and Junior College at Forrest Glenn MD. She was president of the Zeta Eta Theta Sorority. Mrs Spencer also had attended Georgetown University. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Oil City. In addition to her husband, Mrs Spencer is survived by the following children: Mrs John L. (Helen) Fillgrove of Oil City, Mrs Wilford E. Monson and Robert George Spencer, both of Cleveland. Funeral services will be held in Cleveland this afternoon. The body will be cremated and committal services of the ashes will be held in Grove Hill Cemetery here at 3 PM Wednesday. Dr G. Smith, Mrs Maude [Alice] Lewis - Blizzard (Oil City, Pennsylvania) > 1949 > August > 26 MRS M. L. SMITH SUCCUMBS TODAY Mrs Maude [Alice] Lewis Smith, a resident of this city for many years died in her home 718 W. First st at 1 a.m. today. She was born at Pioneer, a daughter of the late George and Ann [Cogan] Mrs Smith was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church. She was married to William H. Smith who preceded her in death in 1937. She is survived by the following daughters, Mrs Robert Spencer, Cleveland; Helen M. Smith and Mrs George Smith of Oil City; Three grandchildren, Helen [later Filgrove] and Robert Spencer, Mrs Wolford [Mary Maude] Monson of Cleveland Ohio. Spencer, Mr and Mrs Wilford Monson, Robert Spencer, Mr and Mrs William Bryson; All of Cleveland; Mr and Mrs Barnsdall Wells, Buffalo, Robert Davis Philadelphia; Mrs A.C.W. Smith, Clara Smith, Albert Smith all of Titusville; Mr and Mrs Gene Smith of Sharon; Miss Imogene Engstrom, Pittsburgh; Mr and Mrs Harold Fillgrove, Emlenton; Mr and Mrs Justin Schrader, Elyria Ohio; Mr and Mrs Harold Ford, Franklin; Mrs Evelyn White, Cleveland.
