Black Gold:::::
If your ancestors are from Venango County
OIL probably touched their lives in some way.
From the book "Oil, Oil, Oil", compiled and edited by Carolee K.
Michener, published 1997, and available from Ven. Co. HIstorical
Society":
...Eclipse Refinery which became a division of Atlantic Refining, acquired
by Standard Oil in Pittsburgh in 1874. After the breakup of the Standard
Oil Trust in 1911, Atlantic became a separate entity...

My father,Francis F. Kennedy worked for the Eclipse Works of the
Atlantic Refining Co. in Franklin,Pa., and was transferred to the
Philadelphia refinery in 1937 when the Eclipse Works was shut down.
My most scary moment as a child was watching from Rocky Grove Ave.
as a huge fire devoured
the refinery tank farm ca.1932.
My father,retired from Atlantic after 48 years of service.
I,worked for the Atlantic Richfield Co ( the later name of the company )
in the Philadelphia
R&D.and retired in 1985.
